Munich

Munich is the capital and largest city of the German state of Bavaria, on the banks of River Isar north of the Bavarian Alps. Munich is the third largest city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg, with a population of around 1.49 million.

Munich is home to many national and international authorities, major universities, major museums and theaters. Its numerous architectural attractions, international sports events, exhibitions, conferences and Oktoberfest attract considerable tourism. Since 2006, the city's motto has been "München mag dich" ("Munich loves you"). Munich is a traffic hub with excellent international, national and local connections, running a fast and reliable public transport system. It is a centre of finance, publishing and advanced technologies. Munich is one of the most prosperous and fastest growing cities in Germany, and the seat of numerous corporations and insurance companies.

Munich has an amazing range of sights, and it's hard to make a choice of what to see if you're only in town for a short time. A stroll through the centre, visiting Marienplatz, Frauenkirche, Alter Peter, Nymphenburg Castle, the Hofbrauhaus and the Rezidenz Palace. The beautiful Englischer Garten park shouldn't be missed either, and make sure you see the Eisbach surfers in action there. Art fans are spoilt for choice - the best museums in town include the three Pinakothek art museums, German museum, Brandhorst, BMW museum and the Bavarian National Museum.
